This impressive and amusing life sized Pygmy goat with glass eyes was made in France circa 1920 by Tuilerie du Mesnil de Bavent, commonly referred to as Bavent; it is in wonderful used condition with expected craquelure to the glaze and minor nibbles.    The primary business activity of Bavent was the production of roof tiles; however by the turn of the century the owner M Aime Jacquier appreciated the uniqueness of the more creative designs that came from his pottery, they were sturdy enough to withstand extreme weather and beautiful enough to be considered art. Alongside his brother Francis who was a sculptor they created many wonderful unusual designed elements of animals that can be found on the rooftops of France today.
